What is the difference between Stainless Steel 304 and 304L? A question that is often asked...

The answer? Not a lot.

304 and 304L contain many similar properties, however 304L contains a smaller amount of carbon at 0.03%, whereas 304 contains 0.08%, meaning that 304L is in fact physically weaker than 304, despite all other properties being the same.

The high chromium content means that both 304 and 304L work well in corrosive environments, however 304L is superior in this regard and is often the popular choice for this usage.

Both 304 and 304L have a working temperature of 500°c.
